Capistrano Valley christened its new stadium with a 33-23 win over Downey on Friday at Capistrano Valley High. The Cougars trailed at halftime and entering the fourth quarter, but scored 13 unanswered points to beat Downey.

Senior quarterback Talon Spencer led the Cougars completing 11 of 14 for 146 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 62 yards on eight carries and three touchdowns.

What to expect: Capistrano Valley moves up from the Delta League after finishing second last season (4-1 league record) and went 8-3 overall. The offense will rely heavily on dual-threat senior quarterback Talon Spencer.

Capo Valley’s returning receivers were all very good in their final passing tournament of the offseason. Cartyr Quartucy was excellent in both tournaments and could be a top receiver this season along with Jolan Gonzalez.
